THE INSOMNIACS BALL
THE INSOMNIACS BALL

www.myspace.com/insomniacsball

The line up for this critically-acclaimed event is set to be the best yet, with live performances from the UK’s most glamorous indie starlets The Long Blondes, hot on the back of their European tour for new album ‘Couples’. Also playing is man of the moment Joe Lean joining us with his merry band of men, the Jing Jang Jong - whose single ‘Where Do You Go’ is released just days before on the 26th May 08 and whose hotly anticipated debut album hits the shelves at the end of summer. City Rockers’ current darlings The Ghost Frequency are set to storm main stage having recently reached No.2 in the NME charts at the end of last year, as are south London hipsters the Haunts, who promise to get the party started before joining the Wombats on tour. Described by Time Out as "perhaps the finest of the new breed of London parties" London's premier disco eclecticists and club promoters Adventures Close to Home have cherry-picked a selection of their current favourite DJs for the club room, including dapper dresser and French DJ/Club banger DJ Orgasmic (TTC / Institubes), ghetto-ravers Radioclit, remixing supremo Riton (Hercules and the Love Affair, Kylie Minogue, Mystery Jets, Mylo etc) and Parisian electro-hottie Misty Rabbit, not to mention the capricious and divergent talents of the resident ACTH DJs themselves.

If that wasn’t enough Insomniacs can delight in their very own bespoke Indie Cabaret hosted by uber cool promoters Be @, best known for their wall to wall parties at Proud Galleries every Saturday. Expect avant-garde walking burlesque, giant rabbits, wandering NASA cosmonauts and a whole host of things that go bump in the night – leave your inhibitions at the door and let your mind unravel.

With 5 arenas of sublime musical talent, late night shenanigans and devilry hosted by TOP UK label and party kings Adventures Close to Home (Club Room), Be @ (Indie Cabaret), The Insomniacs Stage (Live Room), Twisted Licks and Year Zero (VIP) and Lizard Lounge (Chill Out) The Insomniacs Ball should be tattooed on the forehead as THE ONLY NIGHT to be seen at on 31/05/08.

The venue for the Insomniacs experience is London’s 3000 capacity SeOne Club. The night will be a true audio-visual experience with a myriad of caves and raves to explore. Previous artists to play at the Insomniacs Ball include: Foals, The Young Knives, British Sea Power, Digitalism, Sebastian, Uffie + Feadz, Art Brut, The Holloways, Friendly Fires, Blood Red Shoes, The Rakes + many more…

Episode Two: A.Human plus guests + CMU DJs
Plus the first ever CMU Social Pop Quiz – do you know your pop?
229, Great Portland Street, London, Tuesday 6 May 2008, 7pm-11pm

THE BASICS:
o The CMU Social is the new monthly night for readers of the CMU Daily, the UK music business’ biggest and most popular daily news service.
o It launched in April 2008 to huge success, with CMU readers from across the music industry amassing on 229 in London to enjoy exclusive sets from CMU favourites Sportsday Megaphone and Big Strides.
o On Tuesday 6 May the second episode of the CMU Social will be even bigger and better, with a headline set from one of CMU’s favourite new bands of the moment, Wall Of Sound’s A.Human, who will be celebrating the 5 May release of their debut album ‘Third Hand Prophecy’.
o As well as the music, the CMU Social is a real opportunity for music business people to meet, network and generally socialise – or prove their worth with the all new CMU Social Pop Quiz, with prizes to be won between 7 and 8pm.
o Entry is free to CMU Daily readers, who just need to email the names of themselves and their guests to social@cmumusicnetwork.co.uk. Tickets will also be available on the door for £5.

CMU ON THE SOCIAL:
For nearly ten years CMU have been reporting on and writing about and bigging up all kinds of great new music. Among the artists to get some of their earliest coverage in CMU over the years include Stereophonics, Eminem, Snow Patrol, Dandy Warhols, Delays, The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, McFly, Kasabian, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys to mention just a few. But up until now we’ve not had the forum to actually showcase the new bands we’re raving about. Up until now. With CMU’s tenth birthday just round the corner, we have extended our partnership with Leyline Promotions to do just that, with the CMU Social, a new monthly night for music people on the inside, providing a place to meet, greet, chat, cheer, network and socialise while enjoying sets from Team CMU’s favourite bands.

CMU ON A.HUMAN:
Now, this is a band we rate very very highly. And you might say "but CMU, you highly rate everything signed to Mark Jones' Wall Of Sound label", and while that is a not entirely false statement (he just keeps signing loads of our favourite artists), we are especially excited about these WoS signings. In fact, we've been excited about A.Human ever since we first stumbled across them last year, and have been getting increasingly excitable since we saw the release of their debut album 'Third Hand Prophecy' arrive on the release schedule for 5 May. Someone called these guys' music 'shock n roll', which isn't a term I'd normally condone, but in this case I'll let it pass. If you like things synthy and bassy and a little bit mad, then this is an album to track down, and this is a CMU Social set you just have to see.

TWISTED LICKS

2nd May 2008

www.myspace.com/twistedlicks

For the next installment of this stellar night on Friday 2nd May, we are brewing something a little bit special...

Q. What happens when David Holmes’s musical partner Stephen Hilton teams up with Poland’s biggest electronic artist Pati Yang?

A. FlyKKiller.

One of the most exciting musical prospects of 2008, FlyKKiller have already garnered huge critical acclaim - including extensive national airplay and reaching no.2 in The Sunday Times best albums of 2007.

Backing them up is electro sensations Fenech-Soler. Fresh from playing a storming set at our very own night The Remix All Nighter, the boys are poised for world domination - and what better place to start that 229? As if that wasn’t enough to have you throwing some shapes, Twisted Licks have a secret headliner up their sleeves who is guaranteed to bring the house down. This month's DJ revelry is split between Mark Beaumont (NME/YEAR ZERO) and Guy (Fierce Panda), who will be serving up a delicious mix of aural treats.

This is going to be an unmissable night – reach for the Fly Swatters!

Episode One: Big Strides + Sportsday Megaphone LIVE plus CMU:DJS
229, Great Portland Street, London, Tuesday 1 April 2008, 7pm-late

THE BASICS:

o The CMU Social is the new monthly night for readers of the CMU Daily, the UK music business’ biggest and most popular daily news service.
o It provides a forum where the Daily’s industry and media readership can meet, greet, chat, cheer, network and socialise, plus experience some of CMU’s favourite bands.
o It launches at 229, next to Great Portland Street tube station, on Tuesday 1st April, where long term CMU favourites Big Strides and top Sunday Best signing Sportsday Megaphone will both take  to the stage.
o Entry is free to CMU Daily readers, who just need to email the names of themselves and their guests to social@cmumusicnetwork.co.uk Tickets will also be available on the door for £5.

CMU ON THE SOCIAL:
For nearly ten years CMU have been reporting on and writing about and bigging up all kinds of great new music. Among the artists to get some of their earliest coverage in CMU over the years include Stereophonics, Eminem, Snow Patrol, Dandy Warhols, OutKast, Dido, Delays, The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, McFly, Kasabian, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Goldie Lookin Chain to mention just a few. But up until now we’ve not had the forum to actually showcase the new bands we’re raving about. Up until now.    With CMU’s tenth birthday just round the corner, we have extended our partnership with Leyline Promotions to do just that. Ladies and gentlemen, may we introduce to you the CMU Social, a new monthly night for music people on the inside, providing a place to meet, greet, chat, cheer, network and socialise while enjoying sets from some of the artists getting Team CMU most excited.

CMU ON BIG STRIDES:
Big Strides describe their sound as "lo-fi, funked up, double-bass fuelled rock 'n' roll", which hopefully communicates that they belong in that "pretty hard to categorise, which is why we love them" category of music. They've been very busy doing the global thing since the 2006 release of their CMU Album Of The Year 'Cry It All', having played British Music Week in Berlin and the NxNE festival in Toronto, and toured Japan, where they are signed to EMI. They are now safely back in the UK working on a new album, hence why they are able to grace the CMU Social stage next week, hopefully giving us a sneak preview of some of their new tracks, while reminding us why they are one of CMU's favourite bands.

CMU ON SPORTSDAY MEGAPHONE:
Ah, Sportsday Megaphone, one of the main reasons to be excited about music in 2008. We first discovered Hugh Frost proper at Bestival 2007 where his quirky laptop-meets-guitar-meets-jumping-about-a-lot live set was without doubt one of our highlights of the weekend. Now signed to Bestival's sister label, Sunday Best, we await his debut long player with considerable anticipation, and will be able to enjoy a snippet of it all when he takes to the stage at the CMU Social. Bring on the laptops, guitars and jumping about a lot, that's what we say.

CMU SOCIAL LISTINGS:
CMU Social – Big Strides (live), Sportsday Megaphone (live), CMU:DJs Tuesday 1 April 2008, 229, Great Portland Street, London , W1W 5PN. 7pm – late.
